Dear Parish Family,
Happy Mother's Day! We give heartfelt appreciation to all of our moms, grandmas, stepmoms, aunts, and godmothers this day. We have all been blessed with a mother who said yes to the gift of our life, and we honor our moms by being the sons and daughters God created us to be.
We also remember this day all moms who have experienced the death of a child. Jesus shares in your passion as this day may remind you of this painful loss. Remember you have a beloved child in heaven who is with God and who prays for you with all the angels and saints in heaven.
Finally, we pray this day for all women who aren't able to have children. This is another painful experience of our age, and the Church prays for you and shares in your desire to be a giver of life. Continue to unite your desire and sacrifices to our Lord's Cross so he can heal and guide closer to His Sacred Heart and the Immaculate Heart of Mary.
We welcome visiting priests this weekend from the Unbound ministry, Fr. Bill Martin and Fr. Mike Sinkler. Unbound is a Catholic apostolate connecting sponsors with individuals and families to put our faith into action to help overcome poverty. There is no collection for these speakers, but interested parishioners are encouraged to speak with them after Mass to learn more about the Unbound apostolate and take action.
I am happy to announce that in the past year (from April 16, 2024 through April 15, 2025), we had over $320,000 contributed to the Angel Scholarship Fund at St. Mary School! This compares to $250,000 in that same timeframe from a year ago. Thank you to all of our ASF investors for not only contributing, but also helping us share the good word about the tax credit scholarship. These investments will greatly impact the wellbeing of our school and our families. THANK YOU!
Please pray for Deacon Anthony this week as he prepares for his ordination to priesthood this coming Saturday, May 17. We have been abundantly blessed by Deacon Anthony's ministry with us this past year, and we pray that he will continue to open his heart wide to the grace of our Lord in priesthood. Deacon Anthony will be back as "Father Anthony" on Sunday, June 8 for a Mass of Thanksgiving at the 12 pm Mass at St. Mary's. We will have a reception for him afterwards in the St. Mary's Banquet Room.
Deacon Anthony has been assigned to Holy Trinity Parish and St. Mary Parish in Avon for his first priesthood assignment as Parochial Vicar. We ask the blessing of our Lord upon the soon-to-be "Father" Anthony as he begins his new assignment this June!
I am yours in Christ,
Fr. Scott Goodfellow
