Dear Parish Family,
Blessings to all of you this Memorial Day Weekend. This week we honor those who gave their lives in service to our country to preserve our God-given freedoms that promote human dignity and development. Thank you also to all those who serve in our armed forces and for all veterans who have sacrificed so much to preserve the freedoms and peace of our nation.
The Solemnity of Pentecost which we celebrate today honors the fruitful activity of the Holy Spirit given to the Church. St. John Paul II wrote in Theology of the Body, "In this struggle between good and evil, man proves to be stronger thanks to the power of the Holy Spirit, who, working within the human spirit, causes its desires to bear fruit in the good" (TOB 51:6). Poured out upon us at Pentecost, the Holy Spirit inspires good and holy desires within us, and strengthens us to pursue these desires out of love for God and our neighbor.
Fr. Spisak New Assignment and Farewell
I also wanted to let you know that Fr. Spisak has received his new assignment as part-time Parochial Vicar at Communion of Saints Parish in Cleveland Heights. He will begin his ministry there in mid-June. We will have a chance to say farewell to Fr. Spisak next weekend at the 4:00 pm Vigil Mass at St. Patrick's in Thompson and at the 12:00 pm Mass at St. Mary's in Chardon. A reception will follow both Masses. We thank Fr. Spisak for sharing the gift of his priesthood with us these last four years, and pray for him as he begins his ministry at Communion of Saints.
I am Yours in Christ,
Father Scott Goodfellow
