This Sunday is the Twenty-Third Sunday in Ordinary Time. All three readings speak to us of the need for us to care for one another. The prophet Ezekiel (33:7-9) is called to speak God’s word to “the house of Israel.” Some will accept it and others will not. Nevertheless, Ezekiel’s mission is to “warn them” and “speak out to dissuade the wicked from his way.”
St. Paul, in his letter to the Romans (13:8-10), sums up the commandments in one “ saying, namely, ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’” Indeed, “love is the fulfillment of the law.”
In the Gospel of Matthew (18:15-20), JeThe Lord works through His Church in a powerful way. We experience the Lord’s sanctifying grace in the sacraments. We ourselves are called to be instruments of peace and reconciliation in our families, workplaces and schools. As St. Paul tells us, “Owe nothing to anyone, except to love one another; for the one who loves another has fulfilled the law.”sus explains the correct way to go about fraternal the correction. We can take consolation in the fact that “where two or three are gathered together in” Jesus’ name, there He is “in the midst of them.”
In these times of uncertainty, let us never be uncertain about the love that God has for us. As we observe this Labor Day weekend, let’s pray that the work of God will truly be our work as well.
